One of the keys to mortgage financing is know your financial history. Reports that track your financial history, especially your credit report, are vital to whether or not you are approved for mortgage financing -- and what kind of mortgage interest rate you get.
Get a free credit report
You are entitled to one free credit report each year from each of the three credit bureaus. You can access this through AnnualCreditReport.com. You can also pay for a comprehensive report that includes your credit score from each of the bureaus as well. (Note: No matter where you go, you will always have to pay for your credit score.)
Avoid companies that offer a "free" credit report. Often, these Web sites give you your report on the condition that you sign up for a more expensive credit monitoring service. So, in reality, your "free" credit report is not free at all.
It is important to take charge of your financial information, and know where you stand. It will make the mortgage financing process run more smoothly -- and result in fewer surprises for you along the way.
