A Baby Shower Shouldn't Require A Payday Advance

A baby shower is a great way to show a friend or relative you care and to help out a new mother. However, you shouldn’t have to take out a payday advance to pay for it.

The main focus of a baby shower should be for friends and family to get together to celebrate a new life and to help out the mother, especially if she’s becoming a mother for the first time. Don’t feel obligated to throw a lavish party all on your dime.

To save money and still throw a tasteful baby shower, start by planning ahead as much as possible. This isn’t always easy with the timing of the birth announcement and when the baby is born (depending on whether the shower is before or after the birth), but plan ahead as best you can. Create a budget and stick to it as much as possible.

Invitations don’t have to come through a print shop. These can be printed on a computer on a medium-quality paper stock.

Invitations don’t even have to be printed anymore. If you have email addresses for all those being invited, you can create invitations online through numerous free or inexpensive services and send them by email. Make sure to ask the guests to RSVP by a certain date so you know how many to plan for.

Don’t spend money on the venue. You can host it at your own home or at a local park. If this is for a friend at work, you could see if you could use the employee break room. If a friend has a larger home better fit for a party, you can offer to be the host of the party if she’ll open her home to the party. You may find your friend more open to the suggestion if you offer to help clean the house before and after the baby shower.

Asking friends to help can prevent another payday advance

Just because you are hosting, don’t feel like you have to be the one to provide everything for the shower. Feel free to ask friends and relatives to bring food, drinks, cake or even decorations.

Even with help, you still want to keep the expenses down. You can save on food by having the party in the middle of the afternoon and just providing snacks, drinks and cake instead of a full meal. Another option would be to have it in the late morning and serve a brunch, which could be a lighter meal with a lot of fruit, pastries and breakfast food, such as scrambled eggs and bacon.

Instead of a deejay or live musicians, you can provide ambiance and entertainment by loading an appropriate playlist to an mp3 player and connecting it to speakers. If the shower is after the baby is born, make a slideshow of baby pictures and display it on video screens.

Decorations can have dual purposes to help save money. You can make a cake out of diapers wrapped in ribbon and bows and stacked in tiers and then it can be your gift to the new mother. Floral centerpieces can be prizes given out for baby games at the party.

There are endless possibilities if you use your imagination. Just don’t be afraid to ask for help, or you could be saddled with another payday advance loan.
